Abysim.com
I like to start things in the first days of the month — it makes time easier to measure, and I was born on the first of the month myself; this blog was created on December 1st. So now, on July 1st, I'm announcing the launch of the site http://abysim.com
I bought hosting on HostMonster.Com (yes, that's not good) and put my site there on Joomla! (yes, that's even worse). I don't see the point of serious hosting for myself, so I paid for this one for two years for $94.8 — this "unlimited" plan will do for now, and we'll see after that. I also don't have time to build a site on something proper, or to study some "good" CMS (I'm not happy with how things went with Drupal) or framework (PHP would be a start, at least). I've already made more than two dozen sites on "Joomla" — not the best ones, but better than average, comparatively speaking. With almost every project I learn something new and by now I know quite a lot, though there are gaps in some basic things. I'm pleased with the success of my modification of router.php for JoomGallery. The most sensible option I see is to develop my own site on this CMS — it makes for a good playground for experiments with both functionality and promotion.
The site will just be a home page/business card with some materials, a résumé, a portfolio, a guestbook, a gallery, a file archive and, possibly, a catalogue of films with big cats — though it'd be better to create a separate resource for that. I won't be moving the blog there, LiveJournal suits me fine. There's not much on the site yet, but there are plenty of ideas, they just need to be implemented. It looks like I should now draw up a spec and a work plan, and then, maybe, I'll find time for the rest.
