It Happened Before the Amphorae II: Putin and the Snow Leopard

Thanks to the help of numerous LiveJournal users, our previous note "It Happened Before the Amphorae: Putin and the Tigress" not only acquired new details and got an English-language version, but also drew the attention of the media, which recalled a similar case involving a snow leopard and decided to look into the details of that one as well. Altapress.ru published the following extremely interesting information today:

Incidentally, the story with the tigress is not the only one "of its kind". An analogous "storyline" with the snow leopard (irbis) Mongol from the Sayano-Shushensky State Biosphere Reserve (Krasnoyarsk Krai) began on 14 March 2011. It was then that staff of the A.N. Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution captured a male snow leopard as part of a program to study and monitor the snow leopard population in Southern Siberia. The purpose of the capture, in accordance with the permit issued by Rosprirodnadzor, was to attach a satellite collar to the animal and then release it into the wild.
