Results of the second round of the presidential election in Kherson

I'm looking at the voting results for Kherson on the Central Election Commission website. In the city, 53.38% voted for Yanukovych (electoral districts 184 and 185 combined). Yes, that's above the national average, but it's probably the lowest figure in the south-eastern region. Still, the Regionals got their way here too.

The local head Regional, mayor Saldo, did his bit. There's nothing to say about clearing the streets of snow — even the capital has trouble with that. But it's unlikely that there, like here, in some of the residential districts the radiators in the apartments are at room temperature — thanks at least that they don't freeze. There's been no hot water from the tap for several years now, neither in winter nor in summer. The only elevators that work are the paid ones that run on cards.

But everyone has already gotten used to this. I think the leader's not-so-high results are more to the credit of Party of Regions deputy Oleksandr Oleinyk, who literally destroyed one of the city's main enterprises, the combine harvester plant, treating the people in a foul way, mocking them, and leaving who knows what of the plant. And both the leader of the Party of Regions and Prime Minister Tymoshenko allowed this to happen — she realized she couldn't win this fight and that it was more advantageous to hand it over. And what are people to them? All they care about is money for the election campaign and money in their own pockets.

I would still be supporting Yanukovych now if the Regionals hadn't treated my parents that way, hadn't treated the plant where they worked their whole lives that way. As it is, I'm among the 6.07% of Kherson residents who voted against all, and I don't regret it. Either way, with whichever of the two as president, the country will be.....
