How "snow leopard" translates from English

Those in the know would translate "snow leopard" as "снежный барс", and some would just go with "снежный леопард", which annoys certain people. Such examples are easy to find. But what comes out of this animal's name if you automatically translate it from English into Ukrainian, and then into Russian? The answer is under the cut, and it's simple, if you know all these languages and switch off your brain.

СНЕГОВОЙ ЛЕОПАРД

Despite its simplicity, I've just now come across this name for the first time and I'm a little moved to tears... from laughter. Clearly a machine or a person automatically translated "snow leopard" first as "сніговий леопард", and then out of that came "снеговой леопард".

An excerpt from a news item on the Russian version of the STB TV channel's website:

Dozens of journalists and hundreds of visitors. There's a real frenzy at the Tokyo Zoo. A newborn snow leopard made its debut there.

At the moment both Google and Yandex find the phrase "снеговой леопард" in only two places. Besides the STB sites, this expression appears in an article on Turtsia.RU, but there it's a translation of a Turkish climber's nickname, although the nickname was given in Turkish in honor of the animal...

So it wasn't for nothing that this caught my attention, it turns out it's a rarity.

Also on the "Novy Kanal" site you can find the news item via Yandex "The birth of a snow leopard in Tokyo became a sensation", but on the site itself the news item at the link is missing.

Maybe with the changes in the Russian language all this is correct, I'm not very good with this, especially with the Russian language...
